Indexing adjustment refers to the types of gearing system that have indexed shifters, which means the shifter is calibrated to match the very amount of motion of very specific derailleurs. This adjustment ensures that the chain falls exactly into place when a motion is transmitted through the trigger of the shifter. this process also ensures that the chain falls at a safe spot at the rear sprocket limits and the chainring limits. This applies to one derailleur.
